Therapy

Therapy is a sacred space that allows people to heal from life events and learn to manage the emotions that make us human. Whether they are coping with mental illness, facing traumas or stressors, living with anxiety, looking for skills and strategies, or simply in need of a safe and nonjudgmental place to talk and be themselves, therapy creates opportunities to work through adversity and learn tools to feel empowered.

Whether you are looking for a therapist in Denver, Colorado, or wish to participate virtually from elsewhere in the United States, we are here for you with a team that offers multiple state licenses and/or PSYPACT. At Bloomfield Psychology we see clients ages five through adulthood.  Our clinicians draw from various approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

We offer free 15 minute phone consultations to answer any questions you may have about us or therapy in general and to help determine if one of our clinicians would be the right fit for you or a loved one.  Please email (info@bloomfieldpsych.com) or call (720) 460-0543 to schedule one.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Not at all. It’s common to feel unsure and you don’t need to arrive with an agenda. Part of our job is to help guide the conversation and create a space where you can explore what’s on your mind. It can be helpful to jot down things you’re thinking about or noticing in between sessions if you want to share these with your therapist.

  • Research shows that online/virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many concerns, including anxiety and depression. It offers the advantage of flexibility and some people prefer to participate from the comfort of their own homes.

  • The first session focuses on understanding your concerns, goals, and background. You’ll have space to share what’s been going on, and we’ll begin discussing a plan for how therapy can help. If the client is a child or adolescent, we first facilitate a parent-only session for relevant background information.

  • This varies depending on your goals and the challenges you’re facing as well as the treatment modality in use. For example, treatment for insomnia usually takes 5-8 sessions, while someone struggling with OCD may require exposure work over a few months. Some people notice improvements within a few sessions, while deeper work may take longer. We often have therapy relationships that are long-standing where we meet regularly for support or have clients that return to us at various points in the future when they our need help again.
